Art Therapy

Art therapy is an alternative medium for self-expression that supports externalisation of the internal world in a less confronting way than traditional talk therapy. Sometimes it is difficult to find the words to describe the depth of our internal experiences, and art can be used to capture the nuances of our feelings and express what can be hard to say, or express feelings that we may not have had words for.

Art therapy enhances awareness and insight about feelings that may have been hidden from view, as well as supporting people to find new and creative ways to respond to life’s challenges.

A common concern for people considering art therapy is that they have no artistic ability, however the beauty of art therapy is that it doesn’t require any artistic skill whatsoever, but rather an openness to engage with the inner world in a new and novel way.

There is no right or wrong way to approach art therapy, but rather it supports people to experience a greater sense of freedom in their expression which often naturally flows into and enriches their daily life.
